Kawhi Leonard is the center of the Spurs’ universe and the Spurs rely on him on both ends of the floor. His health is pivotal to their success, so it will be important for his teammates to pick up the slack throughout the year. Secondary players need to do well to keep the MVP-candidate fresh and ready for the playoffs. Leonard has already been hit with a mild quad injury, preventing pre-season play.
2) Rudy Gay:
A talented offensive player no doubt but he still coming off a serious achilles injury. Popovich is obviously taking precautions with his star--even in the pre-season. He is purposely bringing Rudy Gay along slowly because he needs to make it through the entire season. The last thing the Spurs want is for him to aggravate his achilles. He is one of the more athletic players on the team and the Spurs desperately need his offense--particularly in the postseason.
1) Tony Parker:
Parker is coming off an severe leg injury and was originally expected to miss time until January but recent reports hint that the star may be ready as early as November. Still the Spurs have to be concerned about the toll the injury has taken on the aging point guard. Will he still have the same speed? Will he still be capable of being effective? He will be an important part of their success in the postseason if he truly has regained form
