Jonathon Simmons has moved on to the Orlando Magic and his days as a Spur are over, but you should still have a ton of respect for this guy’s journey to the league. He tried out for the Austin Toros for a $150 fee and few yrs later flipped that opportunity to a 20 million dollar contract. In America we love to see the underdog win and Simmons was that underdog. His hard work and dedication has set him and his family up for life.
2) The Playoffs:
This guy showed that he had the makings of a Spur against James Harden in the playoffs last season. He showed the grit and the tenacity that Spurs fans love, rising to the occasion after Kawhi Leonard got hurt. His defense was superb and even his offense was clicking. There is nothing better than seeing a player go out and earn himself a contract, it is easy to see those type of “lunch pal” players get their pay day. Spur or not, he embodies the qualities that Spur fans love.
Simmons did what any player should do, he left with class and on good terms with Spurs organization. In a nutshell, that means that he could return to the team at some point. He is only 27 years old and his contract will be up by the time he is 30, which could still be the prime of his career. The Spurs will always have a place for a hard nosed defensive player, that is familiar with their winning ways. So don’t be surprised if he dawns the silver and black again some day.
