Rookie Dejounte Murray hasn’t had a whole lot of time on the floor this season, only registering 38 games but he has shown glimpses of talent here and there. One of his best gifts is his speed and natural ability to get into the painted area of the floor. He has a quick first step and his overall speed is very similar to Parker’s speed back when the veteran was 20 yrs old as well. He hasn’t shown the talent level of a Parker just yet but does have a similar skill-set. Speed is a weapon you can’t teach and that would help against the Rockets.
2) Streaky Shooter:
Tony Parker did not come into the league with greatest jump shot and he worked hard to develop a more reliable mid-range jumper. Murray seems to have the same issue and this this mountain to climb. In the meantime, he has shown the ability to hit the occasional open three-point shot which the Rockets will likely give him if Coach Popovich decides to play him. It will be important for him not to hesitate and to shoot with confidence. He has hit this shot before but not under this type of pressure. He shot 39% from three for the season.
1) Golden Opportunity:
In the NBA these type of opportunities don’t come very often so you can bet the young player will be happy to receive it. If anything, he can bring a high-energy level to the game and do the little things that the team needs him to do. Defensively he could put his stamp on the game and the offense will come to him easier. Replace Parker fully? No but he can definitely, along with Mills and Ginobili, help fill the gap.
