Isaiah Thomas by all accounts has proven himself to be a positive force in the locker room and this is something the Cavs desperately need from the point guard position. Kyrie Irving wasn’t exactly a cancer on the team but he did express that he wanted a “bigger role” on another team. The fact that he would give up Finals contention for more offensive touches so easily sorta tells you where his priorities lay. Thomas’s personality would ideally fit better with LeBron and this could get the former MVP to re-sign with the team.
Thomas has proven that he has an explosive first step and is quicker than Kyrie Irving on his way to the basket. He averaged almost twice as many free throws than Irving last season. This may have something to do with the offensive scheme the Boston Celtics had but it also had a lot to do with the heart and tenacity that Thomas goes into the paint with on a nightly basis. Irving is the better ball handler but Thomas is a better penetrator and this will allow him to pass to open three-point shooters at a better rate.
Isaiah Thomas will come to the Cavs hungry and ready to contend for a championship. He will remember how it feels to carry a team alone and fail--this will ensure that his relationship with LeBron will be good. LeBron James will have no qualms with sharing the basketball and the game will be easier than it has every been for Thomas. He will play less minutes while also being more successful in the postseason than he has ever been before. Leaving Boston will sting but he will soon get over it and thrive next to one of the best who have ever done it.best player in the league today.
