The Celtics are having a fantastic year and deserve recognition for getting the top spot in the Eastern Conference but the team has one major flaw to their offensive strategy. The team depends too heavily on PG Isaiah Thomas and in the playoffs teams are going force other players on the Celtics to beat them. Thomas is averaging about 30 ppg, the next closest person is Avery Bradley at 16 ppg. It will take a lot more scoring to stop the Cavaliers who have been struggling but are loaded offensively.
2) Small Forwards:
One problem that other Eastern Conference teams have is that they don’t have an bonafide small forward to guard LeBron James. The Indiana Pacers have Paul George but that team is extremely lacking in other positions. The Lebron vs. PG match-up may be the only time that LeBron will be truly pushed at that position by All-Star-level talent. The best small forwards are out West, keeping arguably the best player in the league fresh.
The point guard position is one of the most important positions in the league today and the Eastern Conference are limited in this area as well. As good as Isiah Thomas has been for the Celtics most would agree that he isn’t more talented that Irving. So the Cavs have not only the best small forward in the Eastern Conference, they have the best point guard as well; that's a hell of a combination
The Cavs are NOT the perfect team and they could fall short in the Finals but there isn't enough talent in the Eastern Conference to prevent them from getting there.
