Defensively he gave the Timberwolves squad fits, and yes it was just one game but one that showed his overall potential. Murray with his length on perimeter could really boost how the Spurs contain high-powered offenses in the league. He scored 16 points and whether that will be consistent remains to be seen. He is already the best defender at the point guard position for the Spurs and the sky's the limit.
Green has returned and his defense has not left him. He is a hound on the defensive side of the ball especially next to Murray. The Spurs already are showing glimpses of the defensive sets they can throw at teams like the Warriors. He also showed a couple new moves on offense, shooting most of his baskets inside the three-point line. Only time will tell if he will be able to maintain that effectiveness.
1) Rudy Gay:
Gay already looked comfortable in his first regular season game with the Spurs. Against the Timberwolves he did what he was imagined to do, come off the bench providing a scoring punch and some athleticism. He was easily able to slide in the paint at will and finish strong on the break. He had 14 points and 5 rebounds with only 23 minutes of action last night.
