The NBA Finals are over and the Warriors were victorious and mainly because the Cleveland Cavaliers couldn't maintain their defensive intensity. The Warriors will always be an offensive powerhouse and only a defensive minded team like the Spurs can stop such a force. The Warriors simply have too many weapons for any team to beat them at their own style, only a team with a different mind set will be able to dethrone the 2017 champions. The Spurs showed glimpses of defensive greatness in the Western Conference Finals and gave the Warrior stars fits. This Spurs initiative was thrown off course by an untimely injury to Kawhi Leonard.
2) Kawhi Leonard:
Leonard has rose his game to a superstar level and many teams have trouble keeping him at bay on offense. The Warriors are a great team defensively but they don’t have very talented individual player that can lock down stars. That is why LeBron and Kyrie on the Cavs usually do well against them from an individual standpoint. Leonard’s offensive game is special because he is one of the only stars that thrives off the often forgotten mid-range game. He is very efficient and he has a versatile offensive game, not depending too heavily on one aspect. The Warriors don't have an answer for him when he is clicking offensively.
1) Kevin Durant:
The newest Finals MVP is the major reason why the Cavaliers were dismissed after only five games. Durant scored 30 points in every single game but versus the Spurs that will likely be a different story. Leonard has the ability to at least contain Durant for vital stretches in a game. The Warriors could find themselves not able to rely on their trump card when they face off against San Antonio. Leonard can guard the Finals MVP one on one and also match Durant offensively. Don’t forget Leonard is a Finals MVP recipient as well.
