For the San Antonio Spurs cutting down on mistakes is a way of life but there has been several games in the playoffs that they were careless with the ball. They can’t afford to do that in this series, they can’t take possessions or even games off in this series. Passes and shot selection have to be crisp and sharp. It is important for Patty Mills not to be rattled by the moment and play his game, his offense and ball-handling will be crucial in this series. The Spurs have to make Curry work defensively.
The Spurs made the Rockets pay for going small and they will have a similar opportunity versus the Warriors. This team likes to have Durant play the four-spot which should play into the Spurs offensive strategy, offensive rebounds will be key to this series. Defensively the Spurs have to be serious and dedicated to protecting the three point line, the game can get severely out of hand if one of Warriors' scorers gets hot behind the arc. It’s important for the Spurs to limit the trio of Durant/Curry/Thompson--preferably to around to 60 points combined.
The Spurs need offense and a lot of it. They can’t afford to go extended periods of time without making a field goal. They can’t afford not to move the basketball. Above all else, Leonard and Aldridge have to do some heavy lifting offensively. They can be an unstoppable duo in this series, assuming Leonard is healthy, because of their size and strength. The Spurs are going to need 25 plus from each a night to get this done.
