Warriors Still Have Glaring Weaknesses

3) Bench Play:
  • The Warriors had a spectacular win versus the Spurs but largely in part of the Kawhi leonard injury and Steph Curry’s hot shooting. The Warrior’s bench had only 13 points out of the 113 scored to win the contest by two. Going forward in the series this could be a huge issue for the defending Western Conference Champions. Their starters are formidable but can’t do all the offensive lifting for the entire series.

2) Live By the Three:
  • The Warriors with all their offensive talent are still a jump shooting teams and eventually those jumpers will not fall. The team was fortunate that they became hot towards the end of Game One versus the Spurs but it could be an issue later on. The team has no low post presence and relying on long jumpers will likely help the Spurs’ defense. This is what happened to the Houston Rockets last round versus the Spurs. Warriors shot thirty threes and only made 11--36%.

1)Lack of Size:
  • The Spurs came up short because of injury but when their frontline was whole they bullied the smaller Warriors. Kawhi Leonard with his 7-foot wingspan and 6-8 frame could not be stopped in the painted area. Lamarcus Aldridge made Durant and Green pay on the inside as well, so despite this loss the Spurs are not going to get shorter overnight. Green is husky but too short at times and Durant doesn’t have the girth to play the four-spot for more than stretches at a time. If Leonard is ready to go for Game 2, the Spurs still will boast the best front line in the playoffs.
