What TYPE of players should Spurs Trade For?

Honestly, I don't know much things about NBA and basketball in general. But I heard that Spurs is one of the most powerful teams there. if there is a need to trade players, then that means that the team is not yet perfect. Instead of trading, why don't they try to empower their members and motivate them to be the best that they can be. I believe that everyone has their deepest potential and it is the coach's job to unleash it on his players!
