3) Function:
  • The suit immediately gives off the impression that Dinah is starting to take the whole vigilante thing more seriously. The new suit is a far cry from the basic leather jacket-look from last season. The new long gloves are stylish but also have padding for strikes and elbow take downs--moves a vigilante is likely to incorporate on a regular basis. The suit has a sleek and industrial look to it, likely will be somewhat bullet-proof and knife resistant. Canary is also now sporting what seems to be a new staff weapon which should come in handy on the Star-City streets.

2) Color/Design:
  • The color of the suit not only leans to the practicality of being a night hero it also boosts the realism of the TV show. Producers were wise to shy away from the bright yellow colors that the Black Canary has in the comics because it doesn’t quite make sense in the real world. The design however still screams superhero and satisfies the audience’s desire for this character to be better represented. Last season, Canary’s outfit was a little too grounded and looked like she was simply slapping on a domino mask along with her day-time outfit.

1) Hair/Color:
  • Gone are the days of that awful blonde wig Laurel and Sara Lance once dawned but this new Canary’s extensions from Season Five still needed work. Last season her hair not only got in the way of fight sequences it made her hiding her identity less believable. It just felt overwhelming for the character and the actress for that matter to do stunts with all that hair in her face. A bit of a haircut has went a long way of boosting her overall look. The new blonde highlights in the hair are nice subtle touch and a slight nod to the character's history.
