The web-slinger has a special place in the hearts of millions of fans and one of the reasons is his smart-mouth. Spider-man has a knack for saying any and everything he can possibly think of--during a fight. This comedic element of the character makes him so different from a Captain America or Batman; he is a hero that for the most part has fun with his powers and gets a thrill out of using them to antagonize villains. The web-slinger always keeps audiences smiling and holding their sides.
Spider-man protecting New York City is likening to Poseidon watching over the oceans in Greek mythology, because both characters are defined by their environment. Sure, Spider-man is still pretty powerful outside of New York but when he is in his “urban jungle” his abilities are amplified. Web-slinging is a component of the wall-crawler that is both acrobatic and poetic--it's what makes Spider-man memorable. New York City with is amazing skyscrapers add definitive substance to Spidey’s adventures.
1) Average Joe:
Spider-man and Peter Parker are one and the same, the latter represents a good majority of the population though. Parker has real problems and awkward moments, he has moments of depression and moments of glee like an average person. He doesn’t have the billions of Tony Stark to fall back on, only his wit and intellect to guide him through life. Parker has been hit with tragedy over and over again but he keeps getting up...keeps living the right way and audiences respect that.
